Privacy Policy for placy
Raquel Prado built placy (“the App”). This page explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and your choices.
placy lets you save Google Maps places, organize them into lists, and share those lists with friends. This policy applies to the iOS app and the web version hosted on Vercel.
Information We Collect
Account information (when you sign in)
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we collect and store:
- Your email address
- Your display name (if provided by Google or Apple)
- Your profile photo URL (if provided by Google)
- A unique account identifier
This information comes from Google Sign-in or Sign in with Apple and is stored in our database so you can use the App and share lists with others. With Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email from us (Apple’s private relay).
Content you create in the App
When you use placy, we store:
- Lists you create (list names)
- Places you save (Google Maps links, place names, addresses, categories, coordinates, and photo URLs from Google Places)
- Sharing data — email addresses you invite to a shared list
- Feedback — optional messages you send from Settings → Leave feedback (your message and email)
List co-members who have joined a shared list can see your name, email, and profile photo (for the member list), plus the places on that shared list.
Location (optional — only with your permission)
The App may ask for location access while you are using it to improve place search (nearby results).
- On iOS, this uses “When In Use” location only.
- Location is used when you open place search to bias results toward where you are.
- If you deny permission, search still works without location.
- We send your coordinates to our servers only for that search request. We do not store a history of your device location.
Information stored on your device
The App stores some data locally on your phone or browser:
- Your sign-in session (so you stay logged in)
- Your last selected list (preference)
- Cached place photos (for faster loading)
This stays on your device unless it is also synced to our database as part of your account data (lists and places).
Clipboard (when you choose to paste)
When you tap paste while adding a place, the App reads your clipboard on your device to detect a Google Maps link. Clipboard content is not uploaded automatically — only if you choose to add that place.
Information We Do Not Collect
placy does not:
- Access your camera or photo library
- Send push notifications
- Use advertising or analytics trackers
- Collect crash reports through a third-party service
- Continuously track your location in the background
How We Use This Information
We use the information above to:
- Create and maintain your account
- Save, sync, and display your lists and places
- Enable list sharing with people you invite
- Improve place search when you allow location
- Respond to feedback you submit
- Keep the App secure and working correctly
We do not use your information for advertising or sell it to data brokers.
Third-Party Services
The App uses these services, which process data under their own privacy policies:
| Service | Purpose | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Sign-in, database, and server functions | supabase.com/privacy |
| Google Sign-in; Google Places API for search and place details | policies.google.com/privacy | |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Vercel | Hosting the web version of the App | vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Expo | Framework used to build the iOS app | expo.dev/privacy |
When you open Directions for a place, the App opens Google Maps in your browser or the Maps app. Google’s policies apply to that interaction.
Place photos are loaded from Google Places via our servers and may be cached on your device.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We share information only in these cases:
- With list members — people on a shared list can see list content and participant profile info (name, email, avatar) as described above
- With service providers — Supabase and Google process data on our behalf to run the App
- When required by law — if we are legally required to disclose information
Data Retention
We keep your account data (profile, lists, places, and sharing records) for as long as your account is active.
If you delete your account or ask us to delete your data, we will remove or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we must keep certain records for legal or security reasons.
You can delete your account in the app under Settings → Delete account. You can also contact us at raquelpradob@gmail.com.
Children’s Privacy
placy is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Choices
- Location: You can deny location permission in iOS Settings; search will still work.
- Sign out: Use Settings → Sign out to end your session on that device.
- Account deletion: Use Settings → Delete account to permanently delete your account and associated data in the app. You can also email raquelpradob@gmail.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
